The Brain Games How Videos Games Can Make You Smart

Video games have been getting a bad rap. Sure, a few involve nothing more than pointing several deadly weapons at the Undead and blasting them into a bajillion pieces. And there are cases of people wasting otherwise productive hours conquering a virtual kingdom and accumulating pixelized gold instead of going out and getting a real job.

But there are many, many times when video games actually provide a noble purpose in society. When they make you a better person. Or at least, a smarter person.

Because there are video games that are actually built on logic and reasoning, and involve complex problem solving that you can take with you even after you’ve walked away from the computer screen.

Take Tetris. Okay, so it’s a couple of colored blocks set against a metallic, monotonous sound track – but it takes some degree of analysis and quick thinking to assess the shape of the pieces dropping from the top of the screen and deciding where to put it. Factor in that the game speeds up periodically, and the pile of blocks grows with every mistake you make, until you reach a point when one wrong move can kill your chances of breaking the world record—and your brain starts working pretty fast. Faster, in fact, than you would normally use it in the course of the day; admit it, most of the stuff you do at the office is pretty mind numbing, anyway. Between sharpening pencils and performing lightning-fast spatial analysis exercises, Tetris looks like it’s actually good for you.

And then there are the memory games. Ever spent 20 minutes looking for your keys? Or stood at the center of the parking lot, trying to remember if you parked on the same floor? Well, memory games can work that brain muscle so you don’t forget the important stuff (and yes, that includes your wedding anniversary). Studies show that memory isn’t really a function of IQ; it’s a skill: the ability to organize information in your brain, and then retrieve it through a series of memory-triggers. Not all of this is conscious (although you can take active steps to improve memory by researching on what methods you can use). But like all skills, it improves with use. Hence, memory games. The best part about memory games is that they’re actually fun (as opposed to simply memorizing a list of the capitals of each state, or the periodic table of elements) and even relaxing. Yes, relaxing. You’re doing something you love and getting smarter at the same time. Not a bad way to spend a 20 minute break between meetings.

And then there are the strategy games. Conquering the world, running a city, shaping an empire from a handful of barbarian villages to being the first country to set up a space station on Mars—obviously, these aren’t just random point and shoot games. They’re about the same skills you learn in business school, but with cooler graphics: how to manage resources, motivate people, and set goals.

So yes, video games can make you smart. Tell that to Mom next time she tells you to hit the books.

Games MTG Deck Help

Deciding to build a Magic the Gathering deck is easy. But what type of deck do you want to build? The better question even, is "how" to build it. There is a multitude of things to consider before you start to "slap" cards together. The first thing you must do is decide on the color(s) you want to be present in your magic deck. Remember, each color (black, blue, green, red and white) has its own theme. Each color also has its own strength and weaknesses. The more colors you decide to place in the deck, the larger the deck may become.

After choosing which color(s) that you will set in your new magic deck, you now need to set a term for victory. Do you want lots of creatures to overrun your opponent? Or perhaps you want to pummel someone with spells. You could even pick to win by using a combination of cards. The choice that most beginning deck builders is to construct a deck that overwhelms the "enemy" with a multitude of small creatures; it is also easier for them to play with. Intermediate builders will tend to lean towards control or suppression with the use of Spells and/or combinations. That's all nice and good but what do the advanced builders do and how does it help them win?

There is three differences between the Advance builders and the other two builders listed. Those three (fundamental) differences are: ratio management, cost efficient cards and archetypes. It sounds simple but it isn't. Ratio management, for example 1:1:1 creature land spells. Simply it means that for every one creature, you will have one land and spell. Each of their decks (Pros or advance builders) maintains a balance similar to that. Sometimes they'll even do: every 1 creature they'll have 1.8 lands and .2 spells. I'll try not to contradict that but ratios are just one part of the equation.

How do you know a creature is good or just plain bad? Is it how much it costs to put into play or how much damage it can do when put into play? Those questions are usually decided by the player. Some players prefer to have lots of small "quick" creatures deal damage early on but those decks lose momentum mid to late game. Other players prefer to play a big creature and mow right through the small ones. Simply put there really is no bad creature per se but for the creature to be good it must add to the deck. If you are looking for quick creatures, they will tend to be very cheap to put into play; the larger creatures will cost high but usually do damage and have an ability that'll make them worthwhile.

In the previous paragraph I mentioned briefly two archetypes. So what is an archetype? Archetypes are rough outlines for decks based on ideas that have been successful in past tournaments. There are really on three types of decks but they can be mixed and matched to achieve the desired result. The three main types are: Aggro, Combo and Control. Aggro decks will try to deal as much damage as possible within the shortest amount of time. Combo decks will use a plan of two or more cards to instantly win the game or deal a large amount of damage. Finally, Control decks will lock the entire board down and then win after that.

There are plenty of resources on what beats what. Or what is the best deck to use.

Gaming Worlds A Look into MMORPGS

Chances are you have heard the term MMORPG before. Most likely it was while passing by the IT guys while they're excitedly talking about their exploits in some fantasy world. Or maybe you overheard a conversation about some epic battle at the last party you were at. You may have even been asked about it point blank and didn't even know.

Fact is, more and more people are taking time out of the real world to put real time into MMORPGS.

So what are they, exactly?

MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. These games are actually giant worlds were thousands of people connected to the Internet can play simultaneously. The setting is often a fantasy world that includes magic and dragons and the like, but there have been successful worlds that take place in the future, in space and even in the Star Wars genre. The idea behind the game is that you create a character in this world that specializes in some skill, be it a fighter, a trader, a medic, a thief, or perhaps a magic user; and set out to make a name for yourself.

Players will often start out not knowing anyone in the world. They will play through some beginning tutorials that will both introduce the various play elements, as well as surround the player with other players in the same boat. New players will often group up together to take on similar tasks or quests and in the process, create friendships. These players can then seek each others' company out in the future, to continue on other adventures.

At this point you may be wondering, "Well, what's the goal? Is there an end?" And that is where the hook of the MMORPG is: there is no end. Players will constantly strive to improve their skills in the game, be it through working on specific skills, or through gaining experience in the world to gain levels and thus grow stronger. Growing stronger then allows players access into more difficult areas, which has better items, which allows the player to then upgrade their character. This cycle repeats itself many times over in the lifespan of a player's career in an MMORPG and it's up to the particular games to make that process both fun and rewarding.

The true hook to these games, however, isn't necessarily in character power, but rather in the actual human interaction between players. Keep in mind, many of the characters you will encounter in these worlds are living human beings just like yourself and thus bonds can be made. You may often find yourself grouping with people who have similar interests and creating real-life friendships through the game. The stories you are able to tell based on your adventures are often epic in scale and usually are quite memorable. And it is the human element of the MMORPG that separates it from the single player alternative. Being able to have an impact on another person by saving their life, or taking down a dragon with a group of friends, or setting free a group of slaves with the help of a complete stranger are all things that have a lasting impression on everyone involved.

So the next time you hear people speaking about worlds or adventures they were on, take a listen not only to what they're talking about, but listen also to their excitement about it. The experiences in these worlds is very real and that is what makes all the difference.

PC Games Sim City

The year was 1989. The concept was simple. Build a city from scratch, watch it grow and hope to God that it didn't end up getting destroyed by fire, storm or just a bunch of riots in the streets. It was simple, straight forward, to the point and started a craze of goal oriented PC games that have been going strong ever since.

The original Sim City was very simple and by today's standards, very primitive. The graphics were crude two dimensional blocks and the terrain itself was pretty unrealistic. But people had a blast playing it. As you kept building onto your city, which had to be done under certain basic rules, it became harder and harder to keep it from crumbling under your nose. There was a degree of realism to the game. As your city grew and the population grew with it, so did crime, pollution and all the other negative things that went along with a big city.

As was stated above, you did have to follow some basic rules. For starters, you couldn't have a city without some kind of power plant, whether it be coal or nuclear. Nuclear was very expensive so you pretty much had to start off with a coal plant. You then put up your houses and businesses and had to connect them to the plant with electric lines and to each other with the same.

You were given a certain amount of money to do this. Everything cost money in this game, even the power lines. So you had to be very careful with the way you spent it. Income was derived by the taxes paid to you buy the people who moved into your city after you started to build it. Actually, at first you're a town. You don't get to be a city until you reach a certain population, which takes quite some time.

There are other ways you can make money such as putting up a stadium for sporting events. You can also put up a sea port to get income from trade. Airports can also be built. Eventually your city is really hopping. That's when the fun starts. How?

Well, your roads start to crumble from the weight of all the traffic jams. People begin to complain because of the traffic, crime and pollution. They start to move out if things get too bad. When that happens, your income goes down. There's not enough money to repair the roads. Funding for your police and fire departments is inadequate. Fires start to break out and there aren't enough firemen to put them out. Things become a real mess.

PC Games Combat Mission II

If you're into war simulation then Combat Mission II is a must have. Unlike the first person simulations, which may have very realistic graphics, this PC game is realistic in that it forces you to think out your every action. You become the general of the army. You decide whether to attack or retreat, try to outflank the enemy or meet him head on. You have to consider the terrain, time of day and weather. You don't need skill, as the game is actually simulated for you after you supply your troops with their orders, but you do need brains, lots of them.

And that may be the one drawback to this game for people who don't want to have to think that much when they're playing a PC game. This game is all thought. And the control you have over your army is complete. The instruction manual is over 200 pages long. Fortunately, it is very well written, though it will require a lot of reading.

The concept itself is not even that simple. Basically, Combat Mission II focuses on World War II on the Russian Front. The armies involved are the Germans, Fins, Russians, Italians and Romanians. The game covers the time period between 1941 and 1945 when the Russians marched into Berlin. For US fans of the good old US Army, this is one big disappointment as the game doesn't cover the war in Europe.

The game follows what they call the "we go" principal. In other words, even though you are commanding a large army, depending on the battle itself, you give specific order to each division, company and squad and then after you give these orders you don't physically control the actions of each. They will take action on their own based on your orders. If you command them to attack a bunker, they'll attack the bunker on their own. In the course of doing this, they may be ambushed by an enemy squad or company. If so, they will either fight back or retreat on their own, that's if they're not killed first.

There are a number of weapons and vehicles in this game. Each one is programmed to behave as realistically as possible based on ballistics and other factors. Yes, a lot of work went into the programming of this game.

The terrain is set up according to the actual terrain of the various countries and has a great effect on each battle's outcome. The battles themselves are set up according to many of the real battles that were fought in the war. Of course you may get different results since this is a simulation.

But the most fun comes from programming your own battles and designing your own terrain situations. The number of things you can do with this game are virtually unlimited. Not only can you program battle scenarios but you can program campaigns which are a number of battles strung together.

PC Games Dungeons & Dragons EOB

The Dungeons & Dragons Eye Of The Beholder series was one of the most popular PC adventure games that ever came out. It was one of the first really big ones and started what would become a very long line of other similar types of games by a number of companies. But Dungeons & Dragons was the pioneer.

The series was issued in three installments, simply titled Eye Of The Beholder, Eye Of The Beholder II and Eye Of The Beholder III. There were sub titles to each game but most people only remember them by their version number. In all honesty, the version number was all you needed as each game was so much different from the one before it.

The original Eye Of The Beholder was a very simple and rather crude game graphically speaking. It came on one floppy disk, which should give you an idea of how simple it was. But in spite of the old fashioned graphics this game was as exciting as it came. Around every corner was a new challenge. The puzzles in the game itself were so complex that unless you were an expert at these games you couldn't get through them without the clue book. Clue book sales were very big for all three games.

The concept of EOB was simple. Your team of adventurers was given a mission by the king of the land. You then went out on the mission and tried to complete it without getting killed. There were 12 levels in the game so it took quite a long time to get through the whole thing, even with the clue book. The creatures were many, including skeletons, goblins and of course the evil Beholder himself, one very dangerous creature. In order to ultimately win the game you had to get by him, which was no easy task.

Eye Of The Beholder II was a vast improvement over the original. The graphics were a little cleaner and it was much harder. There were many more levels and the final battle itself, against the evil dragon, was even harder than the one against the beholder. In this game you also fought not just one beholder but many. Again, the clue book was a must for this game as the puzzles in the game are mind boggling to say the least.

Unfortunately, Eye Of The Beholder III was a step back from number two. Yes, it was even more involved and the final battle was so hard that your hands could go numb trying to get through it, but the game itself was very disjointed. Things in it didn't seem to go very well together and many of the puzzles seemed thrown together. Plus, they changed the battle mechanism. In an effort to make it easier, they only made it not as interesting. The game itself just had no real heart to it. Oddly enough, it was the least popular of the series and after number three the Beholder series was done.

In spite of its disappointing finish, this series was still one of the most popular early adventure games of all time, even to this day.

PC Games San Francisco Earthquake

The year was 1985. PC games were almost non existent. The personal computer itself was in its infant stages. The amount of memory you had in a PC was about 64K. PC games? Certainly there weren't any PC games back then even worth playing, not with that kind of memory. Well, actually there was. If you had yourself a Radio Shack TRS 80, there was a game so popular that people who owned these computers couldn't stop playing it. The game was called "San Francisco Earthquake - 1906".

The game was to take place around the time of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. But the game itself was not really about the earthquake. Oh yes, it happens during the game, which only makes things that more difficult, but the main objective is to find your wife who has been kidnapped.

Played entirely in text mode, no graphics, you awake to find a note by your bedside that your wife has been kidnapped. You then receive a phone call with a ransom demand. Suddenly there is a terrible shaking and it hits. You're now in the middle of the worst earthquake in San Francisco history and your wife has been kidnapped. What a way to start the day.

The game is played by issuing commands to the computer such as look, get, north, south, east, west (to move around) open, close, inventory and a number of other commands. There is a very limited help function that basically gives you the list of commands that you can use. The only graphics in the game, if you can call them graphics, occur whenever the aftershocks hit. The screen shakes a bit.

The game, in spite of it being pretty bare bones, was very hard. The number of puzzles you had to solve and items you had to get were numerous to say the least. Many times you would have to backtrack to a place you had been to before to pick up an item that only appears after you got another item or another aftershock hits.

For example. There is one part of the game where you reach a pile of rubble. You search through it but don't find anything. So you move on. Later on during the game, another aftershock hits. If you think enough to go back to the pile of rubble, you will see that it had been disturbed and if you look closely enough you will now find an item that you didn't see before.

You had to really think outside the box to play this game. There was no instruction manual and no clue book. For those of you who are programmers, you can figure out where everything is. The game was written in a combination of BASIC and Assembler Language. By printing out the source and object files, if you can read this stuff, you can figure out exactly the order for every item you need to find and where they are found.

The game was a real challenge. And while it didn't have all the bells and whistles of the modern day PC games, it was far from boring.

PC Games Sorcerian

The year was 1987. Japan was trying to cash in on the PC game market. In an attempt to do this, they exported one of their more popular arcade games into PC format. Because of this, the game itself, Sorcerian, plays more like an arcade game than a PC game. This doesn't make the game itself bad, just very different.

The game itself is very interesting in many respects but because of its flaws, the game can become very dull very fast.

Let's begin with the more interesting aspects of the game. Sorcerian is a game where you create the characters from scratch. These characters not only have certain powers and abilities, such as fighter, cleric and wizard, among others, but each character can have a different race and profession. The characters actually age, progress in knowledge and levels and eventually die. This makes the game very interesting as you attempt to build your characters as strong as possible.

The game is also very different from many other PC games in that it has multiple scenarios. Each one of these is like a separate game unto itself. Solving one scenario has no effect on any of the others, other than to increase your characters' levels and skill abilities, along with their age. It appears after completing each scenario your character will age one year.

The scenarios themselves are fairly interesting but there doesn't seem to be any connection between them. This is one of the game's flaws. Plus, you can do each scenario as many times as you want. Some of them are so easy to begin with that eventually your characters will become so powerful that nothing can stop them. This is another one of the game's flaws in that eventually it can become rather dull to play when the challenge is gone.

The look of the game itself is rather odd. The characters are extremely small and don't look anything like real people. They follow each other in a line in an almost comical fashion. When one character battles, they all battle. There is no way to separate their actions. You can equip them with a variety of weapons, however. You can use spells, some of which are very powerful, especially in the upper levels.

The game comes with a very interesting and beautiful musical score. This is actually one of the high points of the game itself, since the graphics of the game leave a lot to be desired. Of course considering when the game itself was made, they're not too bad. Just don't expect too much.

The game is very old, so don't expect to be able to play it on the newer operating systems. Anything past Windows 98 is probably going to crash and burn. The game comes on floppy disks. Yes, we're talking very old.

In spite of the flaws, there is a charm to Sorcerian. The characters are so cute when you view them in their inventory screen. There is enough to do besides fighting, such as training, buying items and other odds and ends. If you can get around the challenges becoming too easy as you progress, this is actually a very enjoyable game.

All you have to do is find a computer to play it on.

PC Games Wizardry

Unless you've been around for a while, you've most likely forgotten this PC game series. And what a series it was. Spanning an entire eight editions, this was one of the most ground breaking games ever made. Sir-Tech software came up with a real winner when they created the first Wizardry adventure game. At the time it was just a big gamble. Nobody could foresee what was about to come of it.

The game itself was created by Andrew Greenberg and Robert Woodhead. The first in the series was entitled "Proving Grounds Of The Mad Overlord". The story itself was interesting enough to have been made into a movie, even if the graphics of this early PC game were crude by today's standards. In short, the game involved the search for an amulet that has been missing for five years. Your characters are to venture into the maze of the game to find it. Simple enough, until you run into all the obstacles thrown your way.

"Knight Of The Diamonds" was the second in the series. In this game it is a staff that was stolen. Without the staff the city is defenseless. So once again, your warriors are called on to begin their search for the stolen staff. The graphics in this game were slightly better than the first one.

The next one in the series was "Legacy of Llylgamyn" In this edition, it's been a generation since the staff was recovered. But now there is a mystical orb called the Orb Of Earithin that you are after. In order to get it, you have to defeat the mighty dragon named L'Kbreth. Not an easy feat by any means.

The Wizardry series kept rolling along with the fourth installment called "The Return Of Werdna". In this edition, it is five years since the mystical amulet was captured. But the amulet has not revealed any of its secrets. Just when it seemed something would be revealed the amulet is stolen once again. It's off to retrieve it once more.

In Wizardry V, called "Heart of the Maelstrom", ages have passed in the kingdom. The heroes are long dead and buried. The story of this edition is way too complex to get into detail here. Ultimately, the new adventurers have to find G'bli Gedook, the guardian of the orb. Afterwards they have to battle The Sorn and whatever is thrown at them. This entry in the series was by far the best to date.

Wizardry VI, "Bane Of The Cosmic Forge", pretty much picked up where five left off. The kingdom has fallen. In this edition the adventurers have to find an artifact called The Cosmic Forge, which is a magical pen of great power. No one knows what happened to the king who originally discovered it or the pen itself. The search through the castle begins.

"Crusaders Of The Dark Savant" was the seventh entry in the series. The Cosmic Forge is gone. In this edition the heroes are searching for The Astral Dominae, an artifact that dates back to the prior millennium. This was the most complex in the entire series to this point and also graphically the most elaborate.

The last of the series was simply titled Wizardry 8. Sadly, this was a pale followup to Savant and the series itself died while going out with a whimper.

The Wizardry series, however, was one of the greatest experiences PC game players had in the relatively short history of PC games.

There may never be another like it.

PC Games 24 Hours

Long before the TV show "24" there was an early PC game, circa 1987, called "24 Hours". The game was made similar to "San Francisco Earthquake - 1906" in that is was programmed in BASIC and Assembler and was designed for the Radio Shack TRS 80. Like Earthquake, it was a text based game with no graphics at all. Many felt that it was simply a cheap knock off. But the game was not without its interesting points.

The start of the game was very similar to Earthquake. A man awakes to find out that his wife has been kidnapped and frantically begins his search, having been informed that if he doesn't bring the ransom in 24 hours, she'll be killed. The clock then starts ticking. The game is actually played in real time. Every second you play, another second in game time goes by. So you literally have to finish this game in 24 hours. And thus, the chase begins, focusing mainly on modes of transportation, of which there are plenty.

The guy starts out hopping in his car and driving all around town looking for clues. He stops at diners, liquor stores and magazine stands talking to people along the way. He finds some items along the way and buys others. Each item leads him to a new clue.

The early portion of the game covers a large area of the city itself and eats up about 4 of the 24 hours. It was apparent that the game was designed so that each section took up 4 hours, since there are 6 sections in the game.

The second section begins when the guy finds his way to the train station. Here, he has to leave his car and hop on a train. On the train he meets a number of passengers who also give him some clues. Ultimately, these clues lead him off the train at a certain stop. If he doesn't get off, it's okay as the train just goes back and forth like a subway. Eventually he'll find the right stop. This also takes about 4 hours.

After getting off the train the next section is all on foot. The area covered will eventually lead you to an airport where you rent a private plane. The clues found that ultimately lead you to this conclusion, of having to board of plane, are rather convoluted. But if you think outside the box, you'll figure them out. In the meantime, 4 more hours have gone by and you are now 12 hours into the game and halfway to either finding the guys wife or watching her die.

The plane trip takes you to a field. The field itself is a huge maze that leads to a cave. Finding the cave itself is very hard as the maze is huge. This part of the game takes another 4 hours to get through the maze, which is done on foot. We are now about 16 hours through the game.

Once in the cave you find some tracks. It appears the cave is some kind of underground railroad. Ultimately you find a small one passenger train that you have to figure out how to run yourself. The tracks in the cave seem to go all over the place. In a sense, you are in another maze. This takes another 4 hours to get through to the end where you find your wife.

Here is where it gets interesting. Your wife is handcuffed to something in the cave. The cuffs don't have a key. Instead they have a combination lock. In the meantime, there is a bomb in the cave set to go off in 4 hours. There is also a complex code box on the bomb. Enter in the right code and the bomb will be defused. Enter the wrong code and it blows up. You have to decide. Do you defuse the bomb or try to figure out the combination for the handcuffs and get your wife out?

You better hope you have more than 4 hours when you get to this section of the game because either option you choose is going to be close to impossible to solve. This is the most frustrating part of the game. The end is ridiculously hard.

Whoever made this game must have loved torturing people because this game is one of the most frustrating things you will ever play.

But oh what a load of fun it is. Even without the graphics.

PC Games Microsoft Flight Simulator

Afraid to fly? No problem. Microsoft's Flight Simulator, one of the oldest simulation games around, will take you flying anywhere in the world in just about any type of plane you can think of.

The year was 1982 when the first flight simulator came out. It was version 1.0. Graphically, it was quite simple, but it did give the user a chance to fly a real plane. In the early editions they used vector graphics, so the view from the cockpit was pretty much left to your imagination.

As the game progressed, however, the graphics became more real. If you took a plane ride over New York, you would see a skyline that was letter perfect to what you would actually see if you were flying over New York in a real plane. But the transition from version 1.0 to Flight Simulator 2002 was a slow and gradual one.

In version 2.0 they finally added duel support for both a mouse and a joystick. Version 1.0 was mouse only. Plus, the simulator became more popular and versions were released on a number of game platforms.

It wasn't until version 3.0 that the flight simulator went to Windows. This was in 1988. The game featured the first multiple windows that you could resize. It also featured 3D windows and panels.

In 1989, Flight Simulator came out with version 4.0. There wasn't a huge difference between this version and 3.0 but the scenery was more detailed. The bridges, roads and buildings looked a lot better than in the earlier version. This version also created a demand for add-on products to the game by outside vendors.

In 1993, they came out with version 5.0. More than 30,000 hours of development went into this version and it showed. It was the first game with photorealistic scenery and a map of the whole world. You could travel from New York to Paris in real time. This was a major breakthrough in the history of the game. With 5.1, the ability to handle scenic libraries was added. Also, weather was added to the game such as storms. This was done in 1995.

Windows 95, which came out in 1996, was the first game in the series available for that windows platform. More planes were added, such as the Boeing 737. Photorealistic satellite imaging was added to this version as well. Plus, flying lessons were added so you could be flying in a matter of minutes. It was the easier simulator to date.

Flight Simulator 98 added 10 times the number of airports than in the previous version so you could take off from virtually anywhere in the world. More planes were added and the graphics became even more realistic. It didn't seem like the game could get any better.

But then Flight Simulator 2000 came out. Four new planes were added. Thousands more airports were added. Navigation was greatly improved. Graphics were improved. The control panels were more detailed. Just trying to figure out the controls for a Boeing 777 was a challenge. Yes, 2000 was even better than 98.

But they didn't stop there. Flight Simulator 2002 was to be the best yet. The working instruments were more lifelike. Buildings became so lifelike that it was scary. New planes were added, including the first float plane. Real time interactive air traffic control was added.

PC Games Dungeon Hack

With the early craze of PC adventure games back in the 80s, you just couldn't get enough of them. Every month, game players would wait for the next release. What adventure would they be up against next? And what could be better than to be able to create your own adventure? That was the premise of the original Dungeon Hack by the makers of Dungeons & Dragons. Unfortunately the game didn't deliver on its promises.

Dungeon Hack could have been a great idea if the makers of it had put the time into it that was necessary. But as with so many products that we see everyday, this was obviously a rush job and it showed.

The premise of Dungeon Hack was simple. Instead of the game engine giving you a set game to play where you journey through some dungeon looking for treasures and fighting monsters, with this game you could design your own adventure and your own dungeon so that each game was different. What could be more exciting than that?

Except the game was anything but exciting. The number of problems with the game far outweighed the number of things that were good about it. Let's start off with the good parts as that won't take very long.

The only good part about this game was that you could indeed "technically" make an infinite number of dungeons and adventures. You could designate how many levels, what kinds of monsters and treasures and a number of other things. On the surface, this would appear to make this a game you could play over and over without ever getting tired of it.

But the actual game play itself didn't quite work that way. Dungeon Hack was simply a random dungeon creator. Even though each one was "technically" different, the truth of the matter was, each one was the same. The only difference in the game, from one play to another, was that the maze was laid out differently and you encountered different monsters in different areas and found different treasures. But the game play itself felt the same each time. It wasn't like playing a different game. It was simply a continuation of the game you played the last time you fired it up. Add to that the fact that the graphics were horrible, even by 1980s standards and this game was almost unplayable.

In the years since the original Dungeon Hack was released, other customizable games have come out. Whether or not they were able to achieve what Dungeon Hack could not is a matter of opinion. Certainly Dungeon Hack had its appeal. For those who didn't need more than just a random dungeon each time they played, it served its purpose. But for those who wanted a different story, in which case this game had none, then you were really out of luck. Dungeon Hack had no story, no cohesive structure and no real interest to a die hard game player.

PC Games Atari For PC

And then it happened.

The Atari 2600 craze died and with it all the great and not so great games that were produced, which came out to literally thousands of titles. At the time there were many who thought that the game craze itself was over.

Not quite.

Over the past several years, many of the Atari and Activision titles for the 2600 have been reborn for the PC. Fans of Space Invaders from the early arcade days and Atari days could now play their favorite game again. The question was, with new PC technology and how far we have come since those early days, would these games stand up? Would they play the same? If they did, would people realize just how crude they were? Would they care?

To get an answer to these questions you would have to ask for game players themselves and most likely if you asked 100 people you would get 100 different answers. The purpose of this article is more to understand why, in an age where we've developed games so complex and graphically stunning, we would want to play games that even during the time they came out were almost laughable.

Maybe it's nostalgia. Maybe we, as a race of flawed human beings, don't want to let go of our past. Maybe we just try to hang on and live out our teens just one more year, or month, or even day. Maybe there WAS something appealing about those old games that you just don't get in today's super techno games. Certainly if you take a small sample of the old Atari games that were updated for the PC, it is obvious that they did their best to retain the old look. In most cases they did. And if you plug in a joystick into your PC the actual playing experience is the same, or relatively close. Yes, some games didn't transfer as well as others. Some they didn't even bother to try because they were so bad to begin with. Others were intentionally updated. The reasons are unknown.

On thing is known for certain. If you were to go on the Internet and do a search for Atari 2600 for PC, you will find well over 100,000 listings. Many of the sites are reviews of the games themselves, of which there are countless ones. Then there are thousands of sites that sell many editions of games, each edition featuring a different selection of Atari 2600 titles. The choices one has is simple mind boggling. You could literally spend an entire day just researching Atari 2600 for PC games. That has to tell you something about the popularity of a game series that many people thought had died a long time ago.

PC Games The Best Ever

As with anything else in life, there is always going to be a best of the best list for games. PC games are no different. And while these lists are purely subjective, what follows are some of the games that most, if not all, die hard game players feel are some of the best PC games ever released. We'll present a few of them and a brief description of each. You can venture out to pick up one or more of these titles feeling comfortable that many before you have enjoyed them.

"Return To Castle Wolfenstein" was voted PC game of the year when it was released so there had to be something good about it. The original was one of the first person shooter games, meaning that you saw everything from your own perspective. The action was fast and furious and was hard as heck. If you want a real challenge in knocking off the bad guys, this game will give it to you in spades.

"Ultima Underworld" was released in 1992. This game was so many years ahead of its time that it was a joke. It had one of the most complex and rich story lines of any PC game ever released. And even though graphically it isn't up to the standards of today's games, it is still one of the most fascinating adventure games of all time.

"Civilization" was released in 1991. This game is the ultimate in long term play. The premise is simple. You begin a civilization back during a time when you didn't have electricity or any of the modern conveniences we have today. If you were lucky, you watched your civilization grow over a period of hundreds of years. This is one game that you could literally play for months, if not years on end. One of the most popular games ever.

"Pirates!" was released in 1988, which by today's standards was pretty much in the stone ages of PC games. Still, this was one of the most fascinating games of all time. You started the game as an ordinary citizen. You could be French, Spanish, Dutch or English. Your task was to rescue your long lost sister. So, you took your pirate ship, got your crew together and went off to find her. The adventure that followed was nothing short of brilliant. This is one game that you will never tire of playing.

Computer Game Explosion Sequences

Have you notice that in computer games the explosion sequences are getting more and more real? Some parents are quite concerned about this because they do not want their kids growing up and blowing stuff up. They do not want to be the parents of the next Columbine Shooter or Oklahoma City bomber or even that crazy Uni-bomber they caught up in the mountains.

There seems to be a big push lately in computer games to make them more realistic and considering that there is currently a war going on in Iraq these games have become very popular. In fact they look so real that many of the sequences that have been designed are now being used in simulators for attack helicopters, army tanks simulators and aircraft fighters in the military.

No matter how the parents feel about these new computer games with the violence and explosions it appears that the gamers actually love it and they want more. The battle is on and they want to make the most realistic explosions for not only the war game video games and computer games but also the racecar video games with cars going out of control exploding on impact.

One thing that I would advise the new computer gaming designers is to look into the geometry, which has to do with combustion and explosions, as there is a mathematical formula and very interesting designs, which take place during such events. If you've ever watched the flickering flame from a campfire or the flame coming out of a Bic Lighter then you know that there is symmetry and design in explosions and combustion. By studying these things you can make more realistic explosions for your next video games because that is what the people buying them are looking for. Consider this in 2006

Next Generation of Computer Video Games and Virtual Reality

In the next generation of computer games we will see the computer program actually designing itself as the player plays along. Currently in computer games, video games and virtual reality if you were on a racetrack in a racecar you cannot go off the racetrack without crashing. And you may only be allowed to go one direction and you cannot do everything, which may want to do.

For instance if you're playing the computer game and it is a football game and you were on the field as one of the players you cannot go up into the stands by hot dog, walk-through the tunnel, buy a beer and then walk into the parking lot get in a car and drive away to an In and Out Hamburger Joint or go see a movie.

Indeed it is obvious why you cannot do his, but what if you could? Well, that would probably be a very expensive computer game, video game wouldn't or virtual reality system to make or buy? And it might take a programmer their whole life just to program and design it for every potential eventuality in first place.

In the Next Generation of computer video games and virtual reality you will be able to do just that. Being trapped in a current computer game would suck, but designing and playing in a Matrix is indeed the future of computer gaming and virtual reality and that is the next generation of computer games. Consider all this in 2006.

Why 80s Arcade Games are the Best

Reminiscing the 80s would never be complete without mentioning about 80s arcade games. An arcade game is a coin-operated gaming machine that you would usually find in entertainment centers, video arcades, and even in restaurants. Popular arcade games are redemption games that give players rewards based on their score in the game; computer-controlled video games; and pinball games wherein the player manipulates one or more metal balls on a playfield.

Flashback

Arcade games began to be so popular in the early 70s. Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney made Atari that released the Pong video game (based on ping-pong or table tennis) that became almost everyone’s favorite. The success of the Pong video game spawned lots of imitations and created more and more avid video players. Eventually video game arcades abounded through the 80s. They can be found in the malls, department stores, bars and even in restaurants and movie houses. They’re everywhere in the United States

Popular 80s Arcade Games

In the 80s, arcade games became even more popular. Some of the most influential 80s arcade games were the following:

Space Invaders – This game, one of the predecessors of modern video games, was created by the Japanese Toshihiro Nishikado. It was first released in 1978 in Japan. This arcade game mimics a shooting gallery with a movable laser (resembling a cannon) placed below the video screen. There were video aliens that were designed to disrupt the game by passing across the screen and by raining bombs and rays that are deadly. The goal of the player is to avoid those deadly rays and bombs and shoot the aliens so that they won’t reach the bottom of the screen or else, he or she will lose in the game.

Pac-Man – This was created by Namco and was first distributed in 1980. It game remains to be popular today though it has already taken new forms. Compared to many 80s arcade games, Pac-Man was not violent, was easy to play and was enjoyable, which explains why it clicked both to young and old, girls and boys alike.

The yellow circle with a mouth called Pac-Man makes people remember this game so well through the years. The game is played by maneuvering Pac-Man through the maze, letting him eat small dots and different item prizes along the way. Ghosts named Blinky, Inky, Pinky and Clyde on the other hand chase Pac-Man.

Donkey Kong – Another video game that emerged so popular among other 80s arcade games was the Donkey Kong. It was made by Nintendo and was introduced in 1981. Basically the game is played by maneuvering the chief character, Mario (formerly Jumpman),across a series of platforms. As Mario goes through the platforms, he has to get rid of obstacles that prevent him from rescuing a damsel in distress from the hands of Donkey Kong.

The abovementioned are only some of the most popular 80s arcade games. There were also the Battlezone, Pengo, Tron, Tetris, Rubik’s cube and many others. The craze for 80s arcade games only began to subside in the late 80s when newer forms of entertainment were being introduced such as advanced home video game consoles but 80s arcade games didn’t totally die out until the coming of fighting games like the Street Fighter ll that required two players.

Computer Game Programmer Insights

If you are computer gaming programmer then you are always looking for new ideas to help modify the game, increase action, interface and make the game more real-life. Often as we see the developers of computer games and genres they choose it seems as if they take quite a bit of potential future technologies and weave them into the game. But how can a computer programmer or computer game designer determine which types of future technologies may be used and which of them should be in the game.

I have some recommendations for this. You see, I believe that if one is to go to the bookstore and search through all the latest scientific magazines and perhaps go to a used bookstore which sells magazines and buy a ten years of old Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, Popular Science, Omni Magazine and MIT Technology Review, then I believe flipping through those pages may give you better insights into deciding which future type events to include and that the user will enjoy and therefore render a more pleasurable gaming experience due to the possible futures that are recognizable and plausible.

There are also several online Ezines, which all so can help a computer game programmer and designer stay up with the latest possible future technologies. It is essential for the integrity of the computer gaming industry to stay closer to science fiction and future technologies than slip too far into science-fiction fantasy if you want to hit the mainstream and sell more computer games. Consider this in 2006.

Computer Games in the Childs Life

The effect of computer games has become a “hot point” in our society. Mostly we draw information on the issue from the two major sources - media and empiric research. And both of them have their own peculiarities. Since 80s the media abounds in numerous reports on hazardous effect of the computer in general and computer games in particular on a child’s psyche. Among the major accusations there is addiction evinced in psychopathological symptoms (inability of a teenager to switch to other entertainments, the feeling of fake superiority over the surroundings, impoverishment of emotional sphere, etc).

Many articles claim that computer games provoke aggressive behavior, violence and wars, as well as extremism. The child tends to limit his interests to “gaming” all the time, he tries to build up his own world and escape from reality. Spending their time only with computer instead of mixing together with their peers lead to the social isolation and difficulties in interpersonal contacts. Somatic disorders, reduction of visual acuity, rapid add up to general negative picture of the computer’s influence.

These opinions are also quite wide-spread in scientific circles and supported by many researchers. They have conducted a number of researches to spot the peculiarities characteristic of the teenagers who spend most of the time playing computer games. A 5- month research of the users aged 9- 16 showed that computer games change their hobby preferences only for a span of a few weeks; in three month-time most “gamers” return to their former hobbies and activities. There is another interesting result refuting the common opinion:” gamers” in comparison with their peers tend to be more responsive to social changes.

The scientists have not detected either serious psychological disorders or any symptoms of “computer” addiction among the tested children. There are only instances of overstrain, foot ache (for those who play arcade games), hand ache caused by convulsive clenching of a joystick, general accelerated psychic excitement, insomnia). One of the central topics of the psychological researches is the problem of aggressiveness of under-aged and the delinquencies connected with it. However the results of numerous works in this field prove that aggressive games provoke aggressive conduct only for children at the age of 6- 9 years old.

The commercials and TV programs containing violent episodes have just the same effect. The results of the tests and researches do not allow us to speak only of definitely negative effect of computer games on teenager’s psyche. Excessive use of computer games as well as any other form of leisure may lead to psychopathological symptoms. Though only one tenth of the tested have such symptom. It would be logical to suggest that knowing your time limit of gaming at the computer you will not be subject to any health risks. Moreover, the games will help you to develop yourself.

People, who would have never had the chance to meet, are not only interacting in a totally new way, they are having a great time doing it!

Online Darts Games

There are many sites that offer free dart games that can be played online. In addition to this, a click of the button allows dart game enthusiasts to download the game into the computer, and to have the pleasure of enjoying their favorite game at their leisure. The advantage of online dart games is that they let the player experience the joy of the game without having to go outdoors or to the local recreation center. Also, there is the added excitement of the whole game being a virtual one.

The virtual game rules are the same as those of a standard game of darts. There are numerous dart games that can be downloaded from various sites. Smile Games – Darts is a very realistic dart game that does not take long to load; in this game, there is no computer to play against, so it goes without saying that there should be somebody else to play with. Other interesting online dart games are “Darts 4 Cash” and “Let’s Play Darts.” The Net also offers free multiplayer online dart games such as “Click Darts,” where it is possible to play games like 301, 501, and Cricket. Playing in groups is also allowed, with “Cutthroat Cricket” and “Freeze.” The game “Click Darts” allows the player to just point and click the mouse; where the dart lands is determined automatically by the website. FreeWorldGroup.com, mostdartgames.com and crowsdarts.com are some of the popular websites that offer online dart games.

Tournaments are also held to enable darters all over the world to compete and win. At present, there are two tournaments starting every weekend. Since all the people that want to take part are not all online at the same time, tournaments can take a couple of weeks to complete. It is possible to monitor the progress of the existing tournaments and to look for any upcoming ones on these web sites. The World Professional Darts Championship, a tournament of great prestige, is held in the month of January, at the Lakeside Leisure Complex, UK.

Got Game

“Get in the game,” is taking on a whole new meaning. Advertisers are expanding their reach with in-game advertising, today you need to develop new and creative ways to zero in on the specific markets that other advertisers seek through the use of games.

Advergames have been around since the mid 1990s but not until a few years ago did the platform demand the attention from advertisers that it does now.

It's clear that the game industry is booming across all demographics, and advertisers are becoming ever more attracted to their allure. Unlike traditional off-line media, promotional games produce trackable results such as the number of visitors, duration of visits, sales and more. The online trend for finding alternative ways to market to consumers is gaining momentum.

From a consumer standpoint, in-game advertising is less obtrusive than other online media formats such as pop-ups and pop-unders that often annoy Internet surfers. When users go online they are typically looking for relevant and engaging content. Games serve both of these needs.

Games aren't just for kids; audiences of all ages become absorbed in the material and concepts that are being delivered through the use of games. According to Comscore Media, men ages 18-24 and women ages 45-54 are the fastest-growing segment of online players. As an advertiser, how do you plan on capturing your audience?

Game development is highly specialized. To profitably integrate a game into your company's marketing mix, you need an expert with years of experience in game development with the know-how to promote your brand. You need a creative studio that is fully staffed with the technical talent, interactive mastery, experienced creative designers, animators and marketers for the one-of-a-kind game you want.

The Advantages of Building your own Gaming PC

As has already been established, custom gaming computer systems can offer wonderful performance numbers and sleek styling, but they can often be cost-prohibitive. Furthermore, even non-custom computer systems can represent more than you are looking to spend, and the component quality is not always up to par. For gamers looking to achieve the highest possible performance at the lowest cost, building their own gaming system has become a more viable option, especially when a tower is all that is needed.

One of the key advantages to building your own gaming system is the cost efficiency of it. If you know where to shop for your components, you stand to spend a great deal less money assembling your system than you would for a comparably-powered, pre-made computer gaming system. Furthermore, the statement above is true: creating your own gaming system allows you to closely monitor the quality of individual components. Many computer manufacturers will save money on the manufacturing of their systems by cutting corners in specific hardware areas, from motherboards to onboard audio. By purchasing each component separately, you are afforded the opportunity of comparing the reviews and reputations of each piece and determining which brand or incarnation will be best for your system. It is possible and recommended to create a system using only the highest-quality parts by purchasing each piece separately and assembling the gaming rig yourself.

How do you Go about Building your own Computer?

Once you decide to build your own gaming system, how exactly do you go about it in an efficient and effective manner? The first step seems simple enough, but it is often the one that proves most problematic in the long run: determine what you are looking for from your system right at the outset. Do you want to go for a complete top-of-the-line gaming monster, or would you prefer to keep the setup at a more cost-effective midrange level? Do you plan on running multiple monitors separately, or will a standard display setup suffice? What types of activities do you see yourself doing on your newly-assembled computer system? Is gaming going to be chief among those activities? Once you determine exactly what you want from your new computer system, you can start looking at individual components.

The logical place to start when looking at computer components is the central processing unit, or CPU. The CPU is the heart of your computer system, and every other decision from memory to motherboard will be based on your choice at processor. The most important factor in selecting the proper processor remains the cost-to-performance ratio. As mentioned in an earlier article, AMD’s latest dual-core 64-bit processors represent the pinnacle of technological achievement, at least for the time being. The performance numbers generated by these processors indicate that the gaming experience found through them is unparalleled. However, at the highest end the cost for just the processor is over $1000. Obviously, not everybody is prepared to spend a grand on one particular component regardless of how well it performs. It is still possible to get a very well-performing processor for significantly less money, one that will anchor your new gaming system for years to come. Websites like NewEgg offer some of the best prices in the industry for computer components, and they allow you to compare both price and product reputation before buying.

Once you have determined the type of processor you will use in your gaming system, the next step is to select an adequate motherboard. Again, the key is to determine what it is that you want from your system. Certain motherboard chipsets work better with different types of processors, and it is recommended that you research these things before making your final decision. Moreover, the performance and configuration that you are ultimately looking for will determine your motherboard selection. How much system memory to you plan on running? What type of graphics card and interface are you leaning towards? The current industry standard is PCI Express, so if you plan on running more than one of these cards, your selection of acceptable motherboards narrows considerably. Once you determine exactly which components you plan on using with your system, selecting the right motherboard becomes significantly easier.

You will want to determine fairly early how much system memory, or RAM, you plan on using with your system. This decision will help determine which of several main components you will end up purchasing. If you plan on using your new computer system primarily for gaming, it is recommended that you purchase and run at least 1GB of RAM. The old level of 512MB of RAM simply is no longer acceptable for most heavy gaming applications, especially when the rest of your system utilizes so many resources. For higher-end gaming, or if you plan on running most games at their highest possible graphical level, you will probably want to upgrade to 2GB or RAM. DDR2 is the latest memory standard. DDR stands for dual data rate, and it essentially means that the memory operates at a higher overall speed than traditional SDRAM. DDR SDRAM itself is rated at several different speeds, so check the specifications on your motherboard to see which memory speed it supports.

Once you determine your ideal storage device configuration (DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, hard drives, etc.), one of the last ways that you can directly impact your new gaming system’s performance is through its graphics card. As stated previously, the current standard in terms of graphics card interface is PCI Express as it allows for the greatest transfer speed between card and motherboard. Furthermore, both of the major graphics chipset manufacturers, nVidia and ATi, now offer support for multiple-card configurations. nVidia calls their particular offering SLI, and ATi refers to theirs as Crossfire. By running multiple graphics cards together, you stand to dramatically increase your gaming system’s 3D-processing capabilities, greatly boosting the gaming potential of your new computer. In fact, nVidia now offers quad-SLI technology, allowing users to simultaneously run four graphics cards. Obviously, the cost and heat output associated with doing so is quite high, so this option is not for everybody. The debate between nVidia cards and ATi cards is a subject for another discussion; their rivalry is almost as storied as the Intel-AMD rivalry, and there are stalwarts on both sides that will not be swayed. However, determining which video card configuration you plan on using will ultimately decide which motherboard, computer case, and power supply that you end up purchasing. Research, Research, Research!

If you have never before assembled your own computer system, it is recommended that you research the process thoroughly before finalizing any decisions. The components listed above will give you flexibility in terms of your system’s performance, but there are other important components to consider including storage devices, a computer case, and cooling solutions. This latter is particularly important; today’s components operate at drastically higher temperatures than their predecessors, so it is important to do so at all costs. The actual assembly of the components is quite easy as they are primarily plug-and-play, but research is again recommended for those who have never done so or who are the least bit uncomfortable with the process. If all else fails, turn to a computer professional to handle the actual assembly of your new gaming system.

Free Online Games The Secret Of Popularity

Free online games are becoming hugely popular. Since the day the games were introduced on the Internet, the popularity is growing exponentially. What are the reasons? Let us discuss.

Convenience- most of the population now has access to Internet. The games are free and easy to play. The convenience is the first reason of popularity.

Killing boredom - television became popular as a medium of entertainment. It gained so much acceptance because it can help us kill boredom. When we don't know what to do, television keeps us busty. Online games are similar but better than television. Watching television involves no other activity. While playing online games involves activity.

Excitement- Most of the online games are exciting. Matching wits with computer has a thrill and that thrill makes the players play more. it is the test of player's skill and the computer. That excitement can make people play for hours.

Winning feeling- the feeling of winning cannot be described in plain words. That has to be experienced. When the player wins against the computer, it gives a high and raises self-esteem. It is a great hormone booster.

Nothing becomes popular unless it has value. One can try to sell anything, but success will be achieved only when the user gets a value. Online games have value for users and hence are becoming popular.

Recreation with Online Backgammon

Backgammon is a fun game that takes two persons to play it. It’s a board game that combines concentration and focus. It is somehow like chess. The basic principle is that you alternatively move the pieces on the squares of the board and try to get them from one part of it to the other. Each player has a color and he has to take into consideration when he makes the moves. The first one that gets all his pieces from one part of the board to the other and aligns them is the winner. These rules make online backgammon a very simple game that doesn’t involve as much thinking or strategizing like chess does. It is accessible to both children (who can learn from it) and to experts who play backgammon for money.

Online backgammon is one of the best ways to play this game for a number of different reasons. All you have to do is access any search engine on the Internet and search for sites which allow you to play backgammon. Online backgammon is more fun because it doesn’t have any of the inconveniences of the real life game. When you will take the decision to play online backgammon you will realize that it is one of the best moves you can make, especially if you’re a fan of the game. If you think it’s more difficult to play online, you are wrong. Any site that allows you to play online backgammon has specific instructions on how to follow some rules and enjoy yourself as well so, it will be easier than you ever imagined. A way to have fun, easier and faster is just a mouse click away from you.

Playing online backgammon is better and more fun than the real life game because it has more advantages and none of the disadvantages. The first problem that’s taken care of is the lack of a partner. If you want to play backgammon at home or in the park face to face with your opponent, you need a real life person because it’s a two player game. Playing online backgammon means that you don’t necessarily need another person to adjust his/her program and to make time to play with you. Having a virtual opponent means you will play against the computer. You can play against a real person even if you play online. There are certain online game rooms where a lot of people go to play several games they are passionate about with other people.

A disadvantage of the real life game is that you escape the time problem. Even if you have an opponent there’s always a possibility he will get bored and that can mean the game may stop or continue unpleasantly. When playing online backgammon you are the only one that decides when the game will end and how long it will last. Online, you can play 24/7 and you don’t have to worry about the missing pieces or about replacing everything in order when you’re done. Another fun thing with playing online backgammon is that nowadays the special sites have become more and more entertaining. One can have fun only by accessing the site without even playing the game. A problem with this type of game is that it is very attractive and captures attention for hours keeping the player in front of the computer. This way it discourages communication between people. Backgammon is a social game and, because it takes two persons to play, the two opponents have the chance to socialize and exchange ideas. However, online backgammon teaches you to focus on your target and obtain the desired results. Games like these are very useful for developing learning abilities like attention, perseverance and competition. They can even be a great encouragement for mathematical talents.

Playing online backgammon one can gain experience and probably get better at this game than the friends who don’t train themselves with a computer. This way the world of tournaments opens itself. Backgammon competitions are organized for those who are interested in challenges. Online backgammon tournaments are very popular nowadays for two reasons: respect and money. While in real life very few play backgammon for money there is a whole different story with online games. There are many who get addicted to playing online backgammon for money. Gambling is practiced by a lot of people today who are in search of new ways to earn money. They forget the main reason they wanted to win in the first and stop having fun. Playing backgammon for money can be considered a form of gambling. A paid account can be made on sites that accept online backgammon for money and the sum one pays is considered to be for betting. Playing backgammon for money is actually a good idea if you are an expert. There is no point in throwing money out the window so you shouldn’t play backgammon for money if you aren’t familiar with the game and the rules of the site. However, if you know you can win, why not earn some money and have fun at the same time?

It doesn’t matter in the end if you play backgammon for money or just for fun. It is a great way to spend your time with friends or home, by yourself and learn about some virtues like patience and perseverance. Backgammon is a very old and appreciated game with a life that has only brought joy to its players. Its existence will continue to bring joy to those who play online backgammon because it is now available everywhere through the facilities of the Internet at the simple click of a button.
