Quality Over Quantity In Game Testing

Most people think that the more glitches they find, the better a tester they will be. Well, that is not necessarily true.

Glitches are rated by importance, not by number.

Finding as many of the glitches as possible is important, but the key to being a great tester is finding the truly important glitches (i.e. glitches that could potentially ruin the game).

As a tester you must analyze every aspect of the glitch... but within reason. There is no point spending a whole week checking a simple glitch 100 times. This time could be better spent on finding and reporting on major glitches.

I know it's hard to understand the difference in importance of glitches, but you will learn more once you get into the job.

However, as a gamer you'd have a fair idea of whether or not a glitch is important in the game, and finding these is a definitely big deal. In fact finding just one of these big glitches will give you more credit in the company than finding lots of little standard ones.

You may be stuck to begin with just testing standard glitches, but always be looking for which glitches are more important than others etc.

It will really go a long way with your career to know how to handle different glitches.

Good luck.
